Troubled Eastham man
shot dead by police

EASTHAM — It wasn’t David Hill’s first encounter with police, but it turned out to be his last. The 23-year-old Eastham man fired shots at the Eastham police station on rainy, foggy Tuesday night, launching a frenzied sequence of events that left him dead a few hours later – shot by two members of a local SWAT team.

War and peace

More than 600 people walked down to Coast Guard Beach Saturday to pay tribute not only to the 2,700 American dead in the war in Iraq, but also to the 240 Iraqi children under the age of 8 who have been killed in the war. The event, called Arlington East, was organized by the Cape Codders for Peace and Justice to emphasize the human cost of war. Volunteers, starting at dawn, placed gray tombstones for the Iraqi children and 2,700 white crosses to honor the soldiers who have died, to date, on the white sands of Coast Guard Beach.
